CULTURE CORNER: Nick Scanlan, Account Executive

Q:Tell us a little bit about yourself – where you live, about your family, what you did before DE?

A: I grew up in the Pewaukee area where my parents still live. I now live in Hartland with my wife (you may have heard of her) and two beautiful daughters. Before DE I was in parish youth ministry for about 10 years working with middle and high school teens and their families.

Q: How long have you been with DE and what brought you here?

A: I’ve been with DE for almost two years. I left the parish youth ministry job to pursue music, and DE turned out to be the perfect thing to accompany that process. It was flexible enough that I could take music gigs and lucrative enough that I could support the family while building the music business.

Q: Who is your favorite saint and why?

A: St. Therese of Lisieux has been a big deal in my life and I feel like I owe her a lot. She’s been a faithful friend and has proven time and time again that she is cheering my family and me on. I believe her intercession is powerful because she promised to “spend her heaven doing good on earth.” I also love her theology of trust in God that has been coined the “little way”.

Q: Who was your first concert and who was your most recent?

A: I saw Matt Maher when I was a Sophomore in high school and he has proven to be a big musical influence. The last concert I went to was Twenty One Pilots (in 2025) which was the best concert I’ve ever been to.

Q: Do you have a pre-performance routine before a gig?

A: Yes! I started working with a vocal coach last year and a real game changer for vocal warm ups has been blowing bubbles. Not kidding. Singing into a cup of water at the right depth creates the right amount of pressure to gently massage your vocal cords.

Q: What is a hobby you enjoy?

A: I used to play so much hacky sack that I bought shoes just for it. Probably one of my favorite hobbies that I don’t do as much anymore. Should really pick that back up.

Q: What is your favorite title of Mary?

A: Probably our Lady of Mount Carmel. I do wear a scapular and really love that devotion. Thrice Admirable has been growing on me lately since being introduced to Schoenstatt.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

A: I really enjoyed high school Forensics and took 2nd in state in Solo Humorous Acting. For those unfamiliar with Forensics it’s basically competitive speech with different categories.

Q: What do you love most about DE?

A: I love that I can do something meaningful, spread the Gospel, and support my family all at the same time.
