The Makings of A Great Advertisement

What is it that makes an ad standout? What is it that drives consumers to your business? Each business is unique and each consumer will be impacted in different ways by your advertising. However, there are some tried and true practices that can improve your chances of hitting home with the most consumers possible.

  1. Stand Out from Your Competition: What makes you different for the other business? What is it you do that truly impacts the consumer? What can you offer that others in your field cannot? Be sure to include in your ad a clear and concise description of what it is your business does and how it is of benefit to the consumer. Think of Domino’s Pizza: “You get fresh, hot pizza to your door in 30 minutes or less, or it’s free.” What Domino’s does is deliver pizza, and how it benefits the consumer is how quickly it is delivered.
  2. Get Their Attention: Use a clear, bold headline or offer a unique package (or free trial or free shipping) to get the attention of the consumer. If they feel that they are at risk of missing out, they will be more likely to act on your offer.
  3. Make Them Take Action: Give clear direction to consumers as to what they should do next. Ask them to call today for a quote or visit your website for more information. We live in a fast paced world. Once you have grabbed their attention, you won’t have it for long, so be sure to provide clear next steps before the consumer turns their attention elsewhere.
  4. Don’t Have Them Take Your Word For It: Include favorable reviews and testimonials from local individuals in your advertising. Consumers like to know that your product or service can be trusted, and there is no better way then to hear that from a third party that has actually used your product or service.
  5. Use Engaging Graphics and Colors: Too many words can turn off a consumer’s short attention span. Be sure to use your branding colors (the colors in your logo or storefront) and use images that match your industry. Consumers can scan advertisements very quickly and by catching the eye before the brain with images prior to words, is beneficial.

Put these five tips into practice and you will be sure to have an engaging advertisement, impacting more consumers than ever before.
