CULTURE CORNER: Doreen Chanay, Market Advisor & Publisher

Q:Tell us a little bit about yourself – where you live, about your family, what you did before DE.

A: I live in the family-friendly suburb of Keller, Texas, with my husband, Larry. We have a blended family, and we’re fortunate to have two married daughters and twin sons. Between our two daughters, we have four wonderful grandchildren.

Before joining DE, I worked as an Event Specialist and Boutique Consultant. In this role, I was responsible for planning events at the store and enjoyed collaborating with non-profits, which allowed me to give back and help others. It was fulfilling to create meaningful partnerships while driving customer traffic to the store, benefiting both the community and the business.

Q: How long have you been an IC at DE and what brought you here?

A: I will have been in this role for four years this July. After the pandemic, I found myself praying for guidance on my next career path. When I came across the Publisher position on Indeed, I was immediately drawn to it. It felt like the perfect opportunity to continue making a positive impact on the world by saving souls and doing meaningful work, all while building a fulfilling career.

Q: Who is your favorite saint and why?

A: My favorite saint is St. Francis, as I feel I can relate to him.  He beautifully preached about the goodness and beauty of the world that God created. He recognized the inherent value in all of creation and saw God’s reflection in nature. St. Francis taught that while the world is good, humanity’s need for redemption stems from our actions. He was deeply connected to God’s creation, showing a profound love for animals and the environment. His reverence for nature and all living things serves as an inspiring reminder of our responsibility to care for the world around us.

Q: What is your favorite pizza topping?

A: Chicken/Spinach

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A: If I could travel anywhere, I would choose Slovakia. It would be an incredible opportunity to explore the country where my ancestors are from and connect with my heritage. I’d love to visit the Genealogy Archives to discover more about my family’s history and learn about the roots that shaped who I am today.

Q: What book(s) are you currently reading?

A: “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth” by John C. Maxwell and “How to Build a Personal Brand” by Harvard Business Review.

Q: What band/who was your first concert and who did you go with?

A: My first concert was Fleetwood Mac and I attended with my high school friends.

Q: What advice would you have for someone new joining the DE team?

A: My advice for someone new joining the DE team is to recognize that you are part of a mission that is deeply inspired by a higher purpose—to save souls. This is a noble and meaningful endeavor, but it’s not always easy. There will be challenges along the way, and life may throw unexpected curveballs, but remember that the rewards are immeasurable. In times of difficulty, never give up. Our team has a beautiful “begin again” culture, where each new day offers the opportunity to start fresh, grow, and contribute. Embrace this journey with faith and perseverance, knowing that your work has a lasting, transformative impact.
